Short Answer Response Rubric Building a sandwich

Rubric Top bun: Answering the prompt in a meaningful way. Cheese (Dressings): textual evidence that adequately supports your answer Meat (bottom bun): Explanation that is in-depth that goes beyond a literal interpretation.

Rubric Score 0: 1. Idea is not connected to prompt/incorrect 2. Idea is too general or vague 3. Contains only a vague answer 4. Only contains textual evidence Score 1: Idea is present and reasonable, but not text evidence is present Idea is present but text evidence used does not adequately match answer/idea Explanation is weak, even though there is an idea with textual evidence Idea represents only a literal reading of the text, with or without text evidence

Rubric Score 2: Idea is present and represents and goes beyond a literal reading of the text. Textual Evidence is used accurately to support answer/clearly linked Explained enough to show that appropriate connections are made Could be explained more in-depth Score 3: Idea is an in-depth answer to prompt Well chosen textual evidence to support the idea, strongly supports the validity of the idea. Explanation is in-depth and shows a deep understanding of the text.
