SR-1563B Classrooms—both traditional and not—will turn to project-based real-world interactions for their students to hone their problem-solving skills at a younger age. These projects, framed as quests and filled with game mechanics to hook student engagement, will focus on working with real people around the world and in their own communities to solve local issues, often in parallel with other regions and classrooms around the world. These “glocal” quests will focus on the connections between the global and the local, recognizing the need to reconcile local dynamics and social structures with the global perspective | Glocal Learning Quests | Future Innovation © 2013 Institute for the Future for Rockefeller Foundation. Inspired by game mechanics and increased global connectivity, Catalysts for Change players discussed ways to take advantage of current trends aimed at re-envisioning education around the world. They suggested breaking out of the classroom in order to connect students to communities and older generations, building inter-generational knowledge and cross-community empathy and awareness. Ideas ranged from simple mentorships to global wikis allowing students from around the world to collaborate on projects. Players even imagined guilds of students and professionals working together on quests to solve real world issues and leveling up as they successfully solve problems | Glocal Learning Quests| From the Players © 2013 Institute for the Future for Rockefeller Foundation.
