ALGEBRA 1 CC Find Slope and x- and y-intercepts
Vocabulary The slope of a nonvertical line is the ratio of the vertical change (the rise) to the horizontal change (the run) between any two points on the line. A rate of change compares a change in one quantity to a change in another quantity.

Example 1 Find the slope of the line shown.

Vocabulary The x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x- axis is an x-intercept. The y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y- axis is a y-intercept.
Example 6 Identify the x-intercept and y-intercept of the graph.

To find the x- and y-intercepts algebraically, given the equation of a graph: x-intercept: set y=0 and solve for x. y-intercept: set x=0 and solve for y.
