2 Children Index In 2003, East Sussex became a government trailblazer to develop a database of all children East Sussex Children Index is… an online tool to improve communication between people who work with children A database which brings together basic information about all children and young people A way to find out who else is working with a child, and his or her family Next will come ContactPoint (national index) I want to know more about ContactPoint I want to know more about the Children Index Next slide

3 Common Assessment Framework is… A partnership approach A common way to gather information about strengths and needs of a child A shared planning tool to enable people to work together, and avoid duplication To be used by practitioners across children’s services in England A way to work out, with the family, what should be done to meet a child’s needs and who should be the Lead Professional One Child – One Plan I want to know more about CAF I want to know more about Lead Professional Next slide

4 What next? This tool has been developed to help you to decide if you need access to the Children Index, and if you need to attend the CAF training programme. All you need to do to find out is click on the boxes as you move through the presentation. Next slide please the ISA team or call if you have any questions

5 Do you work in either:  A school or preschool?  A service* which works with, or comes into contact with, children, young people and/or their families?  a service* which works with, or comes into contact with, vulnerable adults who may be parents? 7 As part of your work do you need to:  Check you have the right contact details for children or young people?  Find out where a child goes to school, or who their health visitor or GP is?  Find out who else is working with a child or young person?  Find out who has done a CAF or is the Lead Professional for a child or young person?  Let other professionals know you are working with a child or young person? 8 Yes you need access to the Children Index Please the ISA team or phone for an application pack. You will need to complete the online information sharing course before you can have access – click the link below to do this now ISA team Info Sharing Course Do I need to go on CAF training?

9 In your work, do you:  Work directly with children or young people in a one-to-one setting?  Assess the needs of children and young people and/or plan support for them?  Work with other agencies to support children and young people when you can’t meet all a child’s needs within your service?  Make or receive referrals to other children’s services? 10 No you do not need to attend CAF training restart us please the ISA team or call if you would like to discuss this You do need to know about CAF and the Lead Professional, but do not need to attend the whole training course. Contact the ISA team if you want to know where you can find out more. If you think someone else in your team, school or service may be the right person to attend CAF training, please pass this on to them

11 Yes you should book onto a CAF training session in your area Even if you think you are not going to be using the CAF form with families very often, you should book onto CAF training to ensure you know what to do if someone calls you to say they are a Lead Professional for a child you are working with, or asks you to be a part of a CAF plan.
