Explore Test Why Is This Important

4 Sections  English40 questions30 min.  Math30 questions30 min.  Reading30 questions30 min.  Science28 questions30 min.  All questions are multiple choice.

Scoring Scale  Based on a score of 1 to 25  English two sections  Rhetorical – Your understanding of the use of strategy, organization, and style of writing.  Usage Mechanics – Punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence structure  Math  Calculators will be provided  Use your test booklet as scratch paper  Additional scratch paper will be provided if necessary

How to Prepare  Get a good nights sleep  Eat a healthy breakfast  Do not stress about the test. It does not count toward your grade.  BE ON TIME!!!  You will not be able to test if you are late or need to check out on this day.  There will be a make-up day.

What do I Bring to the Test?  You (that is it!) What you SHOULD NOT bring to the Test?  Backpacks  Water/Snacks (keep in locker)  Calculator  Cell Phone  Highlighters  Notes/Scratch Paper

Test Taking Strategies  Please read every question and not just mark an answer  Read questions FIRST before reading a passage/paragraph so you know what information to look for.  Write on your testing booklet – cross off answers you know are wrong.

Test Taking Strategies  Time Management – Try your best to answer every question in each section.  Pace yourself – if there is a question you are not sure of or would like to spend more time on, star it and go back after you have finished all the other questions. (It is more important to get a chance to answer all the questions vs. making sure you get that ONE right!)  Don’t Stress!  Running out of time? What do I do?

Why Is This Relevant To Me  Gives a good indicator where a student is academically  Helps a student know where to focus to improve for the PLAN & ACT test.  JATC will look at your PLAN test results  Scores will be discussed during your Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR) meeting  Gives potential interest for career pathways
