Type of Drug Anabolic steroids are used by people who to build muscle. Anabolic means “muscle building”. The full name for anabolic steroids is anabolic-androgenic steroids. Taken orally or injected into the muscles. Can be medically prescribed. Can also be taken in a cream or gel form.
Main Effects Anabolic steroids increase mainly the size of muscles, but with multiple side effects. They do not produce a “high” feeling in the user. They can affect the brain, but will not right away. Are known to cause extreme mood swings, known as “’roid rage”.
Appearance Comes in multiple forms. Known forms are liquid, used in injections and when taken orally. Cream or gel, spread over the desired areas. Pills can also contain anabolic steroids.
Addiction and Treatment Addiction begins after taking one dose, relatively similar to after eating a cookie. Withdrawal symptoms such as nausea occur after a break from taking the drug. Steroid cravings are also common during or after addiction. Treatment is similar to any other addiction treatment.
