Fraternities Permitted to have On-Campus Events with Alcohol: Alpha Epsilon Pi Alpha Sigma Phi Delta Tau Delta Pi Kappa Alpha Kappa Sigma Sigma Alpha Mu Theta Chi Fraternities whose names are not on this list may not hold on-campus events with alcohol either due to judicial issues (see website) or per their national policies (Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Delta Theta, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Alpha, Zeta Beta Tau) 4

On Campus Events Allowed Friday 4pm – Sunday 5pm, must end by 2am No Live Performances, only DJs –Includes bands, rappers, etc. Chapter members may not pool funds to purchase alcohol (Policy for all groups at an international/national policy) Chapters cannot use chapter funds to purchase alcohol (Policy for all groups at an international/national policy) 5

On Campus Events Guest lists need the following: –Full Name and Date of birth of attendee –Name of member hosting the individual –List of members attending the event No live performances on campus if the event involves alcohol –Includes bands, rappers etc. Chapter members may not pool funds to purchase alcohol –This is a policy for all organizations through your HQ also Chapters cannot use chapter funds to purchase alcohol –This means that it can’t be something included in any amount that you pay to another vendor, alcohol cannot be delivered to your event in advance. Individuals who wish to drink should bring in their own alcohol at the time they arrive at the event. 6

On Campus Etiquette and Policy Request UAPD 2 weeks prior to your event Inform neighbors 5 days prior to event Keep attendees on your property, not the street or on neighbor’s property There is no such thing as a noise permit –You will need to control the volume for your surrounding areas Debris/Trash should be cleaned up by 12pm the day after the event 7

BYOB – Bring Your Own Beer All on campus events are BYOB Chapters may not have beer/drinks brought in by an outside vendor or through another contract All alcohol at on campus events should be purchased by individuals and brought into the event by an individual Men should not provide the women with alcohol, and women should not expect to be provided with alcohol. 8

BYOB Continued A maximum of 6 beers or 4 wine coolers are allowed per person. Alcohol content must be 6% or less No Hard Alcohol is allowed at on campus events Beer cards are issued to the chapter at the walkthrough. – Chapter should return unused cards. Beer cards are used to check in the alcohol at the “beer bank” and then used everytime someone wishes to get a beer/wine cooler 9

Off-Campus Events All 10

Off-Campus Events: Can take place Thursday 4pm-Sunday 5pm Event Location should be known only to relevant chapter officers and advisors –You don’t want surprise guests or guests providing their own transportation Transportation should be provided by the chapter both to and from the event 11

Off-Campus Events Alcohol should be provided through a 3 rd Party Vendor Individuals wishing to drink should bring money with them to pay for drinks individually Drinking and Non-drinking areas should be designated Creating themes or having activities (casino night etc.) can help with member/guest management People can and should be asked to leave if too intoxicated 12

Fundraisers NPHC & USFC 13

Fundraisers All rules are the same as off-campus parties You ARE able to advertise for these events, but the invitations should still be intended for an individuals 14

Non-Drinking Event Monitors Individual can not drink before or during the event. One (1) NDEM for every 25 people attending Off-Campus Events: one NDEM must be on every bus back to the drop-off location Must be present at check-in to verify guest list Responsible for managing behavior at the event 15

General Policies 16

Invitations Any event with alcohol shall be a closed event with a guest list pre-printed at the door of event. Mass invitations through sites, such as Facebook, are prohibited No flyers or banners outside of house are allowed Chapters are responsible for the welfare of their guests In this case it is a good idea to be exclusive! 17

Security Security is required at both on and off campus events –Security will only be as vigilant as you tell them to be For off-campus events every chapter submits a $200 deposit –Not required for weekenders or fundraisers For on-campus events, the organizations must provide their own security in addition to the UAPD request 18

Policy Violations Policy violations related to registration or meeting attendance will go to the Greek Standards Board or IFC Standards Board Larger violations will result in referral to Greek Standards Board In cases of personal injury issues will be referred to the Dean of Students Office. All violations can result in sanctioning –Loss of events with alcohol, educational sanctions, fines, etc. 19

Alcohol Education 20

Alcohol Tips Don’t go out alone; go with groups of friends Designate a sober driver Avoid sharing or exchanging drinks If someone offers you a drink, watch it being made Don’t take from common sources of alcohol (punch bowls or containers) Know your limit and your friends’ limits 21

Alcohol Education Warning Signs for high-risk drinking and alcohol poisoning –Having Difficulty Breathing –Vomiting –Non-responsive (passed out) –Injured –Clammy, pale skin –Blue lips –Fever or chills –Exhibiting threatening behavior –Paranoia, confusion, or disorientation exhibited 22

HELP, MY FRIEND DRANK TOO MUCH Try to figure out how much they have had to drink and how impaired they are –Make sure they are easily awaken Look for breathing movements, breathes per minute is normal Say their name loudly or ask them to open their eyes –If they are nonresponsive, call 911 immediately There’s a difference between unconsciousness and sleeping Make sure no more alcohol is consumed Do not leave your friend alone 23

MY FRIEND IS VOMITTING DON’T LET THEM SLEEP ON THEIR STOMACH OR THEIR BACK. –If the person is drunk, they could possibly choke on their own vomit –Lay them down on their side leaving one knee bent to keep them balanced –You can prop them up sitting up straight –There is no use in giving them food or water until they have fully stopped throwing up –The only thing that can help process alcohol is time Once again, DON’T LEAVE THEM ALONE 24

How do I know if my friend is not just drunk? All drugs have interactions with alcohol… If the person is feeling odd, nauseous, tipsy or drunk when knowing he or she cannot be drunk Do not leave him or her until the effects wear off Make sure he or she is surrounded by trustworthy people Report to the police if rape or sexual abuse was involved 25

Resources Get someone sober to help –Remember, you have non-drinking officers at your event who can help Do not be afraid to call for assistance if a friend is in need –911 –UAPD: (520) –Non Emergency UAPD: (520) Campus Health -BASICS Program -SHADE Program 26
