Repose Noun meaning Sleep; calm; peacefulness; to lie prone Here Montresor is referring to the the corpses that fill the walls of the wine cave

Obstinate Adjective meaning stubborn; defying control or treatment Fortunato’s unwillingness to abandon his quest to taste the Amontillado

Rampant Adjective meaning uncontrolled, without restraint This refers to the Montresor crest in which a snake roams free and untethered

Niche Noun meaning a recess or cove; a special area Montresor refers to the cellar he approaches with Fortunato

Remote Adjective meaning distant; secluded Montresor refers to the barren location and how distant it is from everything else
