Plato and the Myth Of The Charioteer By Chastin West

Importance He studied under philosopher Socrates He was very critical of Rhetoric He believed in the idea of only one truth

The Myth of the Charioteer This idea is supposed to represent the division of the human soul -The Three Parts >Charioteer - lover of wisdom >First Horse - lover of honor >Second Horse - lover of lust

Charioteer The Charioteer is the part of the soul that is wise and the philosopher of a person.

The First Horse The first is represented as the good horse It is the part of the soul that wants do everything right

The Second Horse The second horse is represented as the bad horse It is the part of the soul that wants the bad things like lust and sexual ideas It is the partier of the two horses

Platos techne of Rhetoric He derived his own definition of rhetoric from this idea: - Rhetoric is the art (rational method) of leading the human soul toward Truth through rational argumentation
