The demon lover by Elizabeth Bowen Manwinder Singh

The story begins with a woman named Mrs. Drover who is returning to her old home home in London that she had abandon due to a bombing by Germans during

when entering the house she finds a letter on the kitchen table from and event that happened almost 30 years ago. The letter was from her old fiancé and it was about and anniversary dinner that she was supposed to attend

The letter made her have a flashback of when she was 19 and her fiance who was a solider at the time, preparing to fight in the war. He had told her that he would be back for her and when he would return they will go out a party multiple times.

After months pass, Mrs. Drover content with her life and she had gotten news that her fiancé was gone missing. At the time Mrs.drover was hoping that she could get over this traumatic event that had happened to her. She was unable to attract men for almost 11 years, until she met Mr. Drover who she had married and had three kids with.

After reading the letter Mrs. drover was very frightened and panicked. She collected her things and rushed to go outside where she called a taxi. She sat in the taxi and without telling the driver where to go he starts driving. She reached over to touch him and when she did her mouth dropped open and she started banging on the taxi windows and screaming. The story does not tell who the driver is but it is presumed to be her old lover.
