You will be a Logophile A collector of words

You will be responsible for creating your own collection of words that they hear or read and want to remember. You must believe you will make use of the word in order to add to your collection.

The type of words you will collect Three level of words- – First- too common- not for collecting – Second-have heard but are sophisticated Eg. Vivacious, strenuous, amplify, chromosome – Third- ridiculous words you would rarely use in life. Eg. Philatelist (collector of stamps), numismatist (collector of coins), lepidopterist (collector of butterflies)

This year you will appreciate each of these 3 level words: – Bibliophile- lover of books – Graphophile-love of writing – Logophile- lover of words

To set up your collection Count 20 pages backwards from back of Righteous Writing notebook Put masking tape on edge as easy divider- write Logophile Create a metaphorical title page. (see my example)

To Begin… Homework!- go home and collect 10 2-level words that you already know the meaning of. Write the definition IN YOUR OWN WORDS (not a dictionary) Use these words for your title page. Best title pages will be photographed You have a week to create and colour your title page

With your words… Have a blank bookmark in your novel and textbook at all times Every time you see a word you like, you write it on the bookmark. Every week or so, we will choose four words to include in your notebook.

Your page will look like… 1. Word:Part of Speech:2.Word”Part of speech Definition:Use it!DefinitionUse it! 3. WordPart of speech4. WordPart of speech DefinitionUse it!DefinitionUse it!
