Education in Croatian prisons

General situation: The total accommodation capacity of prisons and imprisonment in Croatia amounts to less than places. Currently, there is located about 5000 inmates in all categories. Looking at annual level, about prisoners of various formal and legal status annually pass through the system (prisoners, detainees, convicts). Education: Penitentiary in accordance with its capabilities, can organize basic and vocational training as well as acquiring additional job skills for inmates. For prisoners who havent completed primary education, the same can be organised up to twenty-first year of life. Education in literacy of illiterate inmates are organized independently of age. The training is organized in the prison and outside prison, in accordance with the regulations. Penitentiary in accordance with its capabilities, can organize basic and vocational training as well as acquiring additional job skills for inmates. Higher education: Universitiy education can be provided to prisoners at their own expense, if the educational program can be coordinated with the security reasons.
