The Reformation Why did Martin Luther start a movement to break from the Catholic Church?

A. Causes of the Reformation 1. The Renaissance began emphasizing secular ideas 2. The Printing Press made it easy to spread those ideas 3. Church leaders seemed corrupt and extravagant 4. Middle class resented paying “Church Tax” 5. Some church leaders seemed like they had more authority than Bible 6. The Pope was constantly involved in politics – many leaders resent this 7. Selling of indulgences (forgiveness)
