Elementary School Middle School High School

Old datacenter is a closet No Temperature control Temperatures near 98 every day House fan to keep things cool Flooded more then once No door between office and servers Why move the Data Center Building a new school Temperature controlled Separate rooms Proper racks

Timeline Summer of 2013 Divide the servers onto own subnet Review what needs to be completed as to not miss things School year of Talk with ISP when to notify them of move Discuss move with Wiscnet 3 months before move contact ISP to have fiber scheduled to be moved Have 3 rd party come in to re-look at everything

Timeline Continued Schedule tower move for weekend before move Call and verify help is still able to come

Before the move Resend stating school network will be down for a week Verify with companies everything is in order Take Pictures Write down everything Port numbers for Servers Order to which servers should go up Where things will go Label everything

Start the Move Friday before the move we removed the old tower for the old school and put it up in the new position. Removed the receivers from the other schools Did one final walk through of what all needs to be done Resent stating the network would be down and where to find status updates

Day of the move Helpers come in and assist in un-racking servers Carefully placed them in my car to drive through town Re-rack them in the new environment Start piecing everything back together Internet never gets moved!!!!!

Day of continued Deal with internet Finish installing servers Start getting routes complete and servers talking Still no internet Take back Badgernet router Take back Lightspeed Create Frankenstein with network to get schools working

What we learned Learn to slide with the punches Have multiple backup plans It is good to have a plethora of help Be Prepared Be ready for things to go wrong Plan for the unplannable

What would be done different Have all confirmations done before the move Verify they are all confirmed Have all the different contacts’ information in a notebook Push even harder for fiber
