Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary Giovanni Perez Block 2

Malcolm X was born on May 19 th, When their families house was burned down by a anti-black group, his father died in a murder that was thought as suicide (he was tied to railroad tracks). His mother tried to raise the six children as best as she can but later had a mental breakdown. She was then sent to a mental hospital. Malcolm lived with his foster parents in Roxbury, a small black community in Boston

Soon after arriving in Boston, Malcolm dropped out of school after finishing the eighth grade. He had small jobs but later became a hustler and started to deal drugs. He took a job as a railroad constructor. Roxbury was starting to be too small for him so he later moved to Harlem. And became involved in activities such as drugs, prostitution, and robbery.

He became big in Harlem. He got the nickname, “Detroit Red” because he was considered quick tempered and was capable of extreme violence. After a run in with another hustler he moved back to Boston to start his own house robbing gang. He was soon caught and charged with robbery. Malcolm was sentenced to prison for seven years.

In prison, he met a leader of a Islamic cult called “The Nation of Islam”, named Elijah Muhammad. He joined the cult and got rid of his slave name. He was given the name “X”. After his parole he founded mosques in major cities.

Malcolm and the Nation of Islam became noticed by the American public when he appear in a TV special. He expressed his views in new paper columns and on the radio. He started his own newspaper called “Muhammad speaks”.

Accomplishments Malcolm mainly helped black people to stand up and fight for their rights. He started to get closer to Martin Luther King Jr. as a civil rights leader. Although he did not stand for peace, he used anger to motivate people. Whites were also impacted positively. He also took part in the peace movement, the woman’s rights movement, and the gay rights movement.

Death Malcolm X was fatally shot during a speech he gave to 400 students in Manhattan in Feb 21,1965. Three men were imprisoned on first degree murder. These men were Talmadge Hayer, Norman 3X Butler, and Thomas 15X Johnson. No one knows exactly why his was assassinated. He had a great impact on society and left a scar on segregation. Malcolm story shakes and will shake future generations.
