10.5- Malcolm X

Many African Americans began to become dissatisfied with the Civil Rights Movement. Nation of Islam- Black Muslim group led by Elijah Muhammad Preached that whites were the cause of the black condition and that African Americans should separate from white society.

Black Power “call for black people to begin to define their own goals and to lead their own organizations” Organizations stopped recruiting whites and focused on African American pride.

Black Panthers Started by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale Fought the police brutality starting in Oakland Advocated self-sufficiency Full employment and housing Preached self-defense
