Today I am going to teach class Eight students English Grammar, From Unit-8, Lesson- 1. Time- 45 Minutes Date- 02/04/2014.

Today’s lesson Classification of sentences

By the end of the lesson you will have learnt about- a)Assertive Sentence. b)Interrogative Sentence& c)Imperative Sentence. Objectives-

What do the children do? What does the cricketer do in the field? Look at the two pictures and guess.

In the first picture- They swim in the River. In the second picture- A player plays Cricket. The above two sentences simply state something. So the sentences which describe something are called Assertive Sentences.

Individual work Identify Assertive Sentence in the following. 1.Please come here. 2.Tarek does not waste time. 3.Boys like swimming. 4.Alas! I have lost my Mobile Phone. 5.Cow boys play flutes. (Assert)

What does the man express? A man asks some one to know something.

In the first picture- A man asks something. His questions may be- a)Why are you not listening to me? b)Why are you making a noise?.. In the second picture- His question may be- a) How can I help you? b) What do you want to know?

So, we can say, the sentence which asks somebody about something, is called an interrogative sentence. Symbol(?) must be placed at the end of such a sentence.

Pair work Identify Interrogative Sentence in the following. 1.Don’t we run after money? 2.Does he work hard? 3.What a nice picture it is! 4.How do you do? 5.Go home at once. (Interr)

The man instructs to go. The boy forbids to touch. A boy tells someone to write his name. These are all command, order or request.

In the first picture- His instruction may be, a) Go along this road. In the second picture- His instruction might be, a) Don’t touch the object. In the third one- It is instructed, a) Write your name.

The sentence that expresses a command or order or request or advice is called an Imperative Sentence. Such a sentence needs full stop (.) at the end.

Group work Identify Imperative Sentence in the following. 1.Help the poor. 2.God save our family. 3.She met me yesterday. 4.March forward. 5. Go home at once. (Impera)

According to expression, sentences have been classified into five. They are- 1.Assertive, 2.Interrogative, 3.Imperative, 4.Optative & 5.Exclamatory. ( Underlined Sentences discussed only.)
