Presentation transcript:

It was a yuck, horrible morning, yet all the year 6’s from Reignier School were getting nervous yet excited before we left for Camp Kaitawa. It was a week full of excitement. Yuck, horrible rain, huge hills to climb, slimy slippery caves to crawl through, amazing long beautiful bush walks, smoking fires to cook on and exciting talent. What a never forgettable, fun filled week!!

Monday Time to go to school. I was getting nervous but finally it was time to go to Camp Kaitawa. We hopped into our cars and we were off. 2 ½ hours driving and we had we finally had got to Camp Kaitawa. We jumped out and smelt the fresh bush air. When Nic got there we went on our first bush walk to the beautiful Green Lake, to the deep surge Chamber then up the exhausting pipe line which was very short but a steep walk.

Tuesday On Tuesday we did Ngamoko. The walk was a test of our endurance. It was a straight up, straight down walk. As we were walking we approached a huge Rata tree which was years old. Now that’s an amazing age. As we carried on we had a few stops for barley sugars and Moro bars for energy. It had very pretty views as we were approaching the top of Ngamoko. We got to the top. I was very impressed I made it to the top. We had horrible sandwiches for lunch. Time to come down. The track was a horrible slippery mess. Miss Hewett and Fran fell over a lot. We had plenty of stops on the way down for snacks and scroggin. I was picking out all chocolate from our scroggin. We had finally got to the bottom and made it. We had a long, lovely rest when we got back and chilled out.

Wednesday On Wednesday we had a thriller of a day with muddy and slimy rocks. We drove up to Redoubt to do a walk up to Michael Noonan's grave. There were a couple more graves up there. One was a child who sadly died at the age of 9 months old. We were also at a lake up there. We came back down. As we were coming back down we stopped at a clearing where the English men would look out for the Tuai. We stopped at a hut to eat our yuck lunch. We then drove up to the Onepoto caves. The caves were muddy and very slippery. We went through narrow caves we also went up a almost vertical cave that was pretty scary. Caving was an awesome experience. I would love to do it again.

Thursday On Thursday we walked up to Lake Waikareiti. The walk was a 1 hour walk it was a beautiful long walk though. When we were at the top we had a snack/morning tea. Lake Waikareiti was a beautiful clear lake. When we came back down it was a lot quicker than going up. We visited Papkorito falls. We did a loop track around the beautiful tall waterfalls. When we got back to camp we went around the obstacle course. We then lit our camp fires preparing to cook our dinner. For dinner we cooked scrumy nachos. I smelt like smoke for a while.

Firday Friday. Time to pack up and get ready to go. We had a scrumy breakfast, chocolate self pudding, only if you did the dishes though. We went down to the court and played games while the adults cleaned up (the toilets, rooms ect). Time to go we were off and on our way home. We stopped in Wairoa for lunch, it was chip butties. Then we were on our way again. We had another stop in Tutria for an Ice block. We then headed for school. Then we were back at school. I then found Mum and Dad and I was happy to be home. I really enjoyed Camp Kaitawa. I was exhausted when I got home but had a good experience!
