Theme The Triumph of Jesus Christ

Purpose of Writing John’s purpose in writing this book is clear: to encourage the believers of Asia to stand firm in their faith, armed with the knowledge that, in the end, the cause of Christ would prevail.

Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

- Christ in Revelation - Interpreting Revelation - Place in the Canon

Christ in Revelation 1. Prophet 2. Priest 3. King 4. Titles of Jesus

Christ as Prophet Revelation 2:4-5 But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 'Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place-- unless you repent. Revelation 3:3 So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. Revelation 3:19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

Christ as Priest Revelation 1:13-14 …and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire.

Christ as King Revelation 5:5 … and one of the elders said to me, "Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals."

The Titles of Jesus He is the bright and morning star.

Interpreting Revelation - Christ will return in triumph! - Christians will be preserved through times of trial and tribulation.

Four Methods of Interpretation 1. The Symbolic Method 2.The Preterist Method 3.The Historicist Method 4.The Futurist Method

Place in the Canon Historically, Revelation reveals the believers of the early church as fragile people in need of reassurance. Theologically, this book reveals to us that Christ will be triumphant, regardless of current situations. Devotionally, we should be led to trust God more and be braver and bolder in our service to him.
