Do not sin in your reaction Book of Job, Especially 42

Who sinned against you? How did you handle this? Bitterness will lead to more wickedness and sin Forgiveness does not mean trust. It means giving up the right to hurt you for hurting me. How do you handle the tests/trials of life? Are the tests of life a result of sin? Can be but in many times, they are a growing experience for each of us.

Cosmic war going on in the invisible spiritual that is often played out in the visible physical.

I.The story of Job Rich man—Righteous man Is it sinful to be rich? Is it wrong to have lots of possessions?

B.God asks satan if he has considered Job You won’t let me touch him If you let me destroy him, he will curse you Don’t sin in your reaction

Satan attacks Job’s health Don’t sin in your reaction Job 2:7–8 (ESV) — 7 So Satan went out from the presence of the L ORD and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took a piece of broken pottery with which to scrape himself while he sat in the ashes.

Wife turns back on God Don’t sin in your reaction Job 2:9–10 (ESV) — 9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” 10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

II.The “Friends” of Job Don’t sin in your reaction Eliphaz-The Teminite Bildad-The shuhite Zophar –The Naamathite Elihu-The younger

Conversation between Job and friends Job 3:25–26 (ESV) For the thing that I fear comes upon me, and what I dread befalls me. 26 I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, but trouble comes.” You obviously are a very wicked man The innocent prosper Job, you should repent Job justifies himself You deserve worse Job, no matter what you say, you don’t fear God The wicked will suffer Job condemned and God extolled

III.The reaction of Job I have been righteous I have followed God Job 31:1-40

IV. God’s response to Job

IV.The forgiveness of Job Don’t sin in your reaction Job 42:1–6 (ESV) — 1 Then Job answered the L ORD and said: 2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’ Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. 4 ‘Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you make it known to me.’ 5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; 6 therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” Job repents of his haughtiness

God rebukes the friends of Job The friends have been wrong They must repent They must ask Job to pray for them Don’t sin in your reaction Job must forgive his oppressors Job did not know of the cosmic war going on

V.The Blessing of God in Job’s life and his friends Job 42:10-16 God did not restore Job until he forgave his friends We must forgive our friends and enemies Forgiveness and trust are two different areas. Who has hurt you? Do you need to forgive others who are your oppressors? When you are tempted to give up.

Hebrews 12:1–3 (ESV) 1 …let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
