Presentation transcript:

World War I The Great War began on July 28, 1914 and finished on November 11, It opposed the Allies (France, Russian and Great Britain) against the Central Powers (Germany and Austria-Hungary). More than 9 millions of soldiers were killed, about 20 millions were wounded and around 38 millions were missing. It started because of the assassination of Francois-Ferdinand (Archduke of Austria- Este and the Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia) by Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The most important battle for France was the Verdun’s battle, for the UK, it was the Somme's battle.

The battle of the Somme It began on July 1st 1916 and ended in November 18th 1916, near the Somme river, in the area of the Somme in France. It was also called the Somme Offensive. It was the most murderous battle for the English soldiers. At first, the British bombarded the German trenches, they walked to cross the No man's land to take the German trenches. But the bombardment didn't succeed because the German's soldiers were still alive. Finally English soldiers died. And 6 miles (10 km) had been taken.
