Aim: What factors made cities into wealthy trading centers? Do Now: New York City was once a major trading center. What advantages does NYC have for trading?

Major Trading Cities during the Middle Ages Venice, ItalyCanton, ChinaCairo, Egypt -its location on the coast allowed it to control trade between the Mediterranean Sea & Western Europe. -Middle Eastern goods were shipped to Venice & then taken by carriage throughout Western Europe. -its location on China’s southern coastline allowed it to control river trade inside China as well as oceangoing foreign trade from Europe. -its location on Africa’s northern coast allowed it to control trade up & down the Nile River. -this allowed easy access for foreign trading ships traveling from Europe.
