 SIDS occurs to all kinds of families  Infants seem to be healthy at time of death  Happens quickly during sleep – no pain  We do NOT know what causes SIDS What We Know…

 Smoking while pregnant  Less than 20 years old at time of pregnancy  Poor prenatal care  Low weight gain while pregnant  Use of drugs while pregnant  History of STI’s or UTI’s Higher Occurrence of SIDS

 Infant should always sleep on back  Firm mattress or surface  Good prenatal care  No smoking Prevention

 Cool room temp  Breastfeeding  Regular health care Prevention (continued)
