Beautiful Creatures’ Setting  This story takes place in Gatlin, South Carolina. It’s a very small town. Everyone knows everyone in this town and grew up together, practically. Not very many people go to Gatlin. Its a pretty stormy town as well.

Characters  Ethan Wate-He’s the main character. Ethan has dark brown hair, is 16 years old, and is 6’3. Ethan is curious, caring, and protective.  Lena Duchannes-She’s the other main character. Lena is 15 (Turning 16 soon enough), has long black hair, and eyes that have different shades of green. Lena is mysterious, superstitious, and smart.  Macon “Melchizedek” Ravenwood-He is Lena’s uncle. He’s an Incubus, or a “dark” creature. He feeds off dreams and memories of humans.  Ridley Duchannes-Lena’s cousin. Lena and Ridley use to live together and were like sisters. But that was until Ridley’s 16 th birthday came and she was chosen as a Dark Caster. Ridely’s a rebellious, violent, hateful girl. Link falls in love with her, but she doesn’t show she loves him back. Link, A.KA. Wesley Jefferson Licoln.-Link is Ethan’s best friend since childhood. Link is odd, funny, and not so helpful. He falls in love with Ridley in the book. Amma-Ethan’s nanny of some sorts. She is a “Seer”. She’s raised Ethan since he was little. Amma is superstitious, protective, and motherly. Emily Asher- Ethan’s ex-girlfriend. She is trying to make Lena feel outcasted. Preppy and rude. Savannah Snow-Emily’s best friend. Helping Emily with making Lena feel left out. Just like Emily. Mrs.Lincoln-Link’s mother. She’s possessed by Lena’s mother. Mrs. Snow-Savannah’s mother. She’s trying to get Lena out of town. Sarafine Duchannes-Lena’s mother. One of the darkest casters alive. She supposedly killed Lena’s father. Hateful, pure evil, deadly, dangerous.

Problem/Conflict  Ethan and Lena both have problems. Ethan keeps getting haunted by dreams of saving a beautiful girl (Lena) and keeps getting this creepy song on his iPod. When Lena comes, Ethan realizes that Lena’s the girl in his dreams, but his friends think she’s a weird person, so Ethan is torn between becoming friends with Lena or stick with his old friends.  Lena’s problem is that when her 16 th birthday comes, something is going to happen to her that will change her life. She’s afraid that she’ll end up going towards the bad side of what will happen on her birthday. Another thing, everyone at Jackson High (Except for Ethan) thinks she’s a freak.

Resolution  Ethan’s resolution is that he becomes friends with Lena. He’s tired of hearing all the bad stuff his friends say about her. Lena’s resolution is that she becomes half of the bad and half of the good side of the desicion that will change her life on her birthday. So, the resolutions are Ethan and Lena become good friends and Lena isn’t pushed to the bad side of her family.

My Opinion  I loved this book! Beautiful Creatures is one of my favorite books. The plot is excellent. I loved every bit of the book. From beginning to end, it kept me captured into the book. Surprises came out of every corner. It was amazing! The ending was perfect! I loved it.
