Do You Smell That? Do You Smell That? By C. Johns, J. Nichols, R. Staneley, and K. Berry

QUESTION Do smell thresholds vary among students?

Hypothesis Yes, we believe some people have stronger thresholds of smell than others. Yes, we believe some people have stronger thresholds of smell than others.

Procedure Materials Needed: 1. 6 Medicine cups with lids Medicine cups with lids. 2. A marker 3. A measuring cup 4. Mint extract 2. A marker 3. A measuring cup 4. Mint extract 5. A Medicine dropper 5. A Medicine dropper 6. Water 6. Water

Step- By- Step Directions 1) Get 6 medicine cups with lids and label them ) Fill cup 0 with water.Put on the lid. 3) Fill measuring cup with 244mL.(8oz)water. 4) Add two drops of mint extract and stir. 5) Pour water into cup 5. 6) Pour out mint water to 120mL. Add water until it reaches 240mL. Pour into cup 4. 7) Repeat step six three more times. 8) Have each student sniff the cups beginning with cup 0 until they identify the smell as mint. 9) Record the results and make a bar graph.

Control Our control is cup 0 with no mint extract. The amount of water in each cup. The amount of water in each cup.

Variable Our variable is the students smell thresholds. Our variable is the students smell thresholds.

Results The smell thresholds are strongest towards cup five.

Conclusion We learned that smell thresholds for mint vary from student to student.
