2 Two simple units for visual leak detection In some applications it makes sense to eliminate wiring and expensive control room equipment and rely on people. Two different models of visual leak indicators are presented for market evaluation Model 1 is powered by 2 “AA” size batteries Mode 2 is solar powered. Both devices are adapted to work with any TraceTek sensor cable or probe and can also be used with other “dry contact” type detectors

3 Model 1: Battery Powered This unit uses 3 high efficiency LED’s that can be easily seen from in-front of the unit Visibility is great in the dark and OK in day light When the sensor cable is contacted by the appropriate liquid, the LED’s will begin to flash Flashing will continue for at least 30 days However, if no one notices the flashing light, the Flasher will eventually deplete the batteries and there will be no indication at all. The batteries need to be replaced once a year If the batteries run low the unit will show a “double flash” pattern for at least 1 month, but eventually, if the batteries go dead, the unit will not flash at all including in leak situations Each unit comes equipped with a “TEST” key that can be turned on to verify both good batteries and a that an undamaged sensor cable is connected.

4 Model 2: Solar Powered This unit has a solar panel to charge a storage battery inside the unit There are 18 high intensity LEDs within the lens that provide 360 degree visibility The LEDs are bright enough to be seen even in daylight conditions from any direction. The storage batteries have the capacity to keep the LED’s flashing for at least 48 hours after a leak is detected (even if there is no sunlight). And sunlight can keep the flasher going longer as some charge is recovered. If the storage battery runs low, the circuit automatically stops the flashing long enough to recharge the batteries to an acceptable level then the flashing starts again. The life time of these units is projected to be 5 to 8 years after which the storage batteries loose their capacity to hold the solar charge.

5 The selection of cable type determines how the Flasher will operate. TT5000 for fuels like jet, diesel or gasolineTT3000 for water, waste streams, and any other conductive liquid TT5001 for organic solvents like acetone, MEK, Toluene or NMP TT7000 for sulfuric or nitric acid (currently in Beta Testing)

6 Other probes or contact devices work too FFS Probes for fast fuel sensing in a sump or pit (currently in Beta Test) Mini-Probes for quick detection of water or conductive liquids in a confined space Any float switch or normally open contact that closes to indicate an alarm condition

7 Applications Large Above Ground Storage Tanks – Monitoring beneath tank floors with sensor placed in slotted conduit beneath the tank – Monitoring the interstitial space beneath primary tank floor plate for tanks that have been retrofitted with a double bottom Containment monitoring for small above ground storage tanks Monitoring beneath buried pipeline and tank valves with sensor cable placed in slotted conduit and buried in the soil Monitoring vertical sampling wells in valve manifold areas Temporary monitoring of drip pans placed under areas where flanges and valves have undergone recent maintenance Sump and pit monitoring in chemical storage areas High level indicator for sumps and containments with normally closed drainage
