Rosh HaShana! The Feast of Trumpets! Pastor Timothy Hinkle September 25, 2011

Leviticus 23:23-25 The Feast of Trumpets Given! 23 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD.’”

Rosh HaShana Rosh HaShana Begins Thursday. Rosh Hashana, also known as the Feast of Trumpets or the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on Thursday, September 29th. The Biblical holiday is perhaps most well-known for the sounding of the shofar horn, which is done at holiday services around the world. The day is a time of repentance and begins the Days of Awe that culminate with Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. In Israel, it is a national holiday.

The Feasts to Christians! Christians are now beginning to realize the whole redemptive story is pictured for us in Israel’s feasts!  Passover—Salvation, deliverance from Egypt (flesh, sin)  Feasts of Unleavened Bread & First Fruits—instruct us as to the purpose of salvation—FRUITFULLNESS & HOLINESS— God saves us so that we can be SET APART  Feast of Petecost (first fruits)—Instructs us as to the TYPE of fruit we must bear— SPIRITUL FRUIT

Fall Feasts  Feast of Trumpets—The beginning of the Jewish New Year (Biblical not Fiscal) and symbolizes many things.  Commemorates the creation of the World—specifically of Man on the 6 th day  Recognition of God as the King of the Universe!  A Call To Repentance! A time when God may decide whether their (the Jewish people) are inscribed in the book of Life.

Fall Feasts  Feast of Trumpets (continued)  Symbolizes the end of the evil age and the promise of the coming Messiah! The Jewish children are taught to listen for the sound of the Shofar because it will be blown at the coming of Messiah! (to Christians—the Return of Christ!)  Is believed to be the true birthday of Jesus (according to the zodiac and by scripture calculating the time of Mary’s gestation in relation to the time of Elizabeth’s gestation in Feast mentioned)  Feast of Tabernacles—Tells of how God will one day dwell with men!  Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)—Christ fulfilled when He presented Himself as the perfect lamb following His resurrection!

Scripture  John 15:1-5 (Feast of Unleavened Bread and First Fruits)  1 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Scripture  Galatians 5:22—23 (Feast of Pentecost or First Fruits) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  Revelation 21:3 (Feast of Trumpets and Tabernacles) 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

Scripture  Zechariah 8:22 (Feast of Tabernacles) 22 Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the LORD.’

 Zechariah 14:6-9 (Feast of Tabernacles) 6 It shall come to pass in that day That there will be no light; The lights will diminish. 7 It shall be one day Which is known to the LORD— Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen That it will be light. 8 And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea; In both summer and winter it shall occur. 9 And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be— “ The LORD is one,” And His name one.

Conclusion  We, as Christians, can celebrate the Feasts of Israel and understand their true meaning and promises!  The Feast of Trumpets points us to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and His rule forever!!!
