Presentation transcript:

As Historians, the children will lead the learning, as they consider what they need to know in order to provide a Greek Feast for parents and friends! This will naturally include such areas as what they need as clothes, food, entertainment etc (we don’t want to give too much away as the children will genuinely need to decide what else they will need to know and research!). We will be using ICT to research our topic and record findings. In drama and PE they will learn about and explore Greek dance and theatre. We will go to the small amphitheatre in Holmfirth for them to try performing the plays they develop. As Designers we will be exploring 3D sculpture, using wire and subsequently mod roc to create forms linked to the Ancient Greece topic, such as sculpture, vases, pots and plates. Creativity Thinking Party – Ancient Greek Style! What do we need to put on a feast? Party – Ancient Greek Style! What do we need to put on a feast? We have launched this year with our ‘Learning to Learn’ work with the children, coupled with the conference to involve family and people from home. We want the children to develop their sense of themselves as independent learners, finding their best ways to learn. Writing: We will be examining the structure of greek myths and creating our own. The children will write their own play scripts and perform them. This runs alongside the ongoing spelling, grammar and punctuation work. Children will take part in guided reading through the week, using ‘Reciprocal Reading’ techniques. Maths: Children work in flexible ability groups to ensure that we teach to their specific needs and challenge them suitably. This term we focus initially on number, pattern, the four operations and applying those skills. PE: Children are required to have PE kit in school every day. Our focus this half term will be on netball and basketball skills, and in dance we look at Greek dancing. We are hoping to get outside as much as possible to do outdoor learning linked to the Greeks. Music: we will be using the inter-related dimensions of music to compose in groups linked to a Greek story. RE: The theme this half term is all the aspects of Sikhism. Year 6 Learning Letter Autumn To enhance our school curriculum driver of ‘Creativity’, we have planned the sessions to include plenty of drama (including performing in the amphitheatre in Holmfirth!), art, games, design and performance skills. We are also doing SSA (Share Something Awesome) – children can sign up to share or talk about their own interests. Community We have worked our topic themes to link as much as possible with you at home. There are two main opportunities for you to come into school this half term and be part of the children’s learning. We are also working closely with Two Valleys Radio both in the Learning to Learn project and in the Greek topic work (eg podcasts of their plays). Homework is given out on a Thursday and is due in on Tuesdays. Please ensure your child has a complete PE kit in school at all times – green T-shirt and black shorts, with appropriate footwear. Dates for your diary: Learning conference. Last week of half term, amphitheatre visit in Holmfirth - TBC Additional Info
