RUSSIAN FESTIVALS AND HOLIDAYS, TRADITIONS OF THE COUNTRY.

New Year New Year is magical holiday of the year.It is a happy holiday. In the city the streets are decorated with garlands. A huge Christmas tree is put at the main square. In the New Year Ded Moroz comes and gives gifts to children. He brings gifts in the bag.

Christmas Christmas is Christian holiday that celebrates in the birth of Jesus Christ. For millions of Christians it is the happiest and the busiest time of the year.

Defender of the Fatherland Day Defender of the Fatherland Day – is a celebration of the defenders of the Motherland. On this day we congratulate fathers, brothers, grandfathers.

Maslenitsa Maslenitsa marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring and Lent. During this festival people make pancakes, sing songs and dance traditional dances or go visiting each other.

International Women is Day The 8th March is a great holiday for all women. The 8 th of March is International Women is Day. It is a happy and nice holiday.It is a good tradition to give presents and flowers to women on this day.

Easter Easter is Christian holiday. Russian children get many sweets, eggs on this day. In the morning people go to church. It is a family holiday, so after the church they visit their relatives and say each other : -Christ is risen! –He is risen indeed!

Day of Spring and Labour On this spring day people prefer to go out into the streets and take part in all kinds of outdoor activities.

Victory Day The greatest holiday in Russia is Victory Day. On the 9 th of May 1945 the Soviet Army defeated the German Fascists. Many veterans take part in the military parade. People lay flowers in Moscow is Park Pobedi and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Day of People is Unity This is a new holiday in Russia to celebrate unity of the nation. Now this day is marked by marches and demonstrations in central parts of Russian cities and towns.
