Interactive Medium-Fi Prototype ERIN SINGERELIA AHADI PATRICK BRIGGS ALEX WANG CS /31/2014

OUTLINE 1.Overview of talk 2.3 representative tasks 3.Revised UI Design and Rationale 4.3 scenarios shown carrying out each task w/ med-fi 5.Tools Used 6.Summary of talk

First task: Finding a Tutor Functionality: Tutee would like to find a tutor to boost academic progress Tutee searches for available tutor, and can filter search by rating, availability, and location Ex: Natalia is stressed about not understanding recursion for an upcoming midterm, uses Tutera to get extra help to understand concept. Note: Changed from previous. Combined long term and short term tutoring

Second task: Advertising your tutoring availability Functionality: Tutor would like to advertise themselves and when they are free to gain more students Advertise skills and availability via a tutoring profile. Ex: Patrick is great at explaining recursion and would like to help people who are struggling with the concept. He makes a profile on the app Note: New task

Third task: Recommending a tutor to someone else Functionality: Tutee recommends tutor to someone else Tutee reviews past tutors and recommends great tutors to others via the dashboard and “Your Tutors” Ex: Vincent really thought Valentina was a great math tutor he had for a past class he took. He knows his friend, Jen is now taking that class and could use outside help.

Revised UI Designs Scheduling Design: Only show the blocks of time tutors are available Changed the way tutors input available hours

Post Session Flow: Split rating and paying into two separate screens

Changed how to recommend a tutor to friend, and added “book again” feature

Task 1: Finding a Tutor

Task 2: Advertising Your Tutoring Availability

Task 3: Recommending a Tutor

Tools Used Sketch to create interface designs Small Learning Curve No support for native-looking (iOS/Android) interface controls Marvel to make static screens interactive Transitions and Navigation Lacks features to type in text input areas, click on checkboxes, scroll, etc. Detracts slightly from prototype’s usability

Limitations Lack of full interactivity All data in app is hard-coded, no wizard of oz techniques Everything is fixed (subject, selected tutor, etc.) Users cannot enter text, click on checkboxes, scroll, etc. Lack of complete coverage for all interface screens Not every single button is functional

Summary of talk 3 tasks for tutee Finding a tutor Advertising your tutoring availability Recommending a tutor to a friend Revised UI Changes Scheduling system: how to display and input available time slots Post-session flow: separating paying and rating screens Recommending tutors: more intuitive Added “book again” feature Overview of how to complete 3 tasks using current prototype Used Sketch and Marvel – were able to create designs and implement limited interactivity/functionality. Data hard coded.
