SHAC Criteria Chair or Co-Chair is not a school district employee. Membership reflects representation from Coordinated School Health Components. Consists of no less than 5 voting members. More than 50% of the members are parents who are not employees. Meets a minimum of four times each school year. Maintains an updated website with the following:  Mission;  Vision;  Goals;  Bylaws; and  Meeting Minutes. Uses research and data to drive decision-making. Serves healthy meals and snacks, when meals or snacks are provided. Reports directly to the District’s Board of Trustees and provides an annual report with recommendations and guidance for implementing best practices and effective policies for improving school health. Reviews current school health legislation and rules and provides recommendations for implementation to the Board of Trustees. Supports the federally mandated district’s Wellness Policy through assessment or consultation.

Award for Excellence Winners Five school districts demonstrated an outstanding commitment to implementing the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) requirement per TEC Each of them received a $2000 award and recognition by state leaders for their efforts through SCORE. Future training on SHACs will include their implementation strategies, as well as components from the 12 additional school district applications we received. Models for the rest of the state!
