The order of succession to the presidency after the Vice President is determined by the original Constitution. force of tradition. Presidential Succession Act. 25th Amendment.

The major importance of the 12th Amendment is that it did away with the electoral college system. eliminated the possibility of a tie for the presidency. required electors to pledge to vote for their party's chosen candidate. made electors' votes automatic.

Most of the sessions at the national convention are spent listening to the keynote address. electing the convention's committee members. selecting the party's presidential candidate. listening to party speeches and reports.

The main argument in favor of limiting the President to a single 6-year term is that it would limit the unprecedented power of the President. permit more qualified people to serve as President. free the President from the demands of a second-term campaign. keep the President from being a "lame duck" in the second term.

The nation “played with fate” for nearly 180 years because eight Presidents died in office. the Presidential Succession Act had not yet been passed. no constitutional or congressional provision defined presidential disability. the President could not fire the Vice President.

The problem with the results of the election of 1796 was that a Federalist captured the presidency. a Democratic-Republican captured the vice presidency. the President and Vice President were from opposing parties. two presidential candidates tied for the office.

If the winner of the popular vote does not win the presidency the people must find another way to elect a President. the will of the people has been subverted. the election is thrown into the House of Representatives. this proves that direct democracy would not work.

A candidate’s share of the popular vote is the basis for State’s electoral votes Balance the ticket Proportional plan Winner take all Swing voters
