Presentation transcript:

How to Play the Guitar  By: Kevan Crittendon

What you will need.  A guitar  A pick  An amp  2 cords for the amp and guitar  A power source to plug the amp in and make it work  A lot of patience and determination Make sure you but a good quality guitar and amp. Do research and ask the store clerk for good advice.

Getting Started  Take the amp and place in on a flat stable surface  Such as a Table, A stable stand, the floor works best.  Plug the amp in to the power source.  Plug the guitar into the amp.  Turn the amp on.

Getting Started Cont.  Adjust the guitar to where the sound is coming through the amp.  Turn the knobs on the amp to where you can hear it clearly and smoothly. Keep strumming a string till you get to this point.

Your First Time Playing  Before you play a song you will have to become used to playing  Start strumming on the guitar. Not even worrying about your fingers or where they are.  You will need to build up strength in your fingers in order to play for long periods of time without pain or discomfort.

Your First Time Playing Cont.  After you get used to strumming its time to play a note. Hold down one of the 6 strings and strum the guitar while holding down the string.  Do this over and over and over again, all over the neck of the guitar with different frets and strings.  It will sound bad and like a bunch of noise at first. But don’t worry we all sound like that on our first try.

Practice and Practice  Try and play at least an hour a day when you first start out.  After you play for a while you will begin to play for longer periods of time everyday.  Eventually you will be able to play songs  Don’t worry if they aren’t perfect.  The more you practice the better they will sound. Playing guitar is basically memorization.

Practice and Practice Cont.  Know what you are playing just “Jam”  “Jamming” refers to just playing random notes and cords that you know in order to make up a song.  Jamming comes after you are more experienced. Playing actual songs when you first start is a good idea.
