Statue of Zeus! By: Mia

What was the Statue of Zeus made of? In Zeus’ right hand there is a figure of gold and ivory. The Statue of Zeus was made of gold and ivory. In his left hand lies a staff, made of every kind of metal, and has an eagle at the top. Zeus’ garments are carved with lilies and animals. His robe and sandals are made of gold and Zeus’ tremendous throne is decorated with stones, ivory, ebony, and gold.

How It Was Built? The Statue of Zeus was built by a famous Greek sculptor, Phidias, and was designed by a great architect named Libon, in honor of the Greek god Zeus. It was built in Olympia just 150km west of Athens. The Statue of Zeus is about 40 feet tall. The statue was enclosed in a temple that was made especially for it.

Visiting the Statue of Zeus! Every year THOUSANDS of people come visit the Statue of Zeus to pay their respects. The Statue of Zeus is one of the most famous statues made by the Greeks. People who came to watch the Olympic games admired his gold and ivory. I think the Statue of Zeus would be a great place to visit!
