Mentoring Shall be defined as giving instruction, direction, or counsel to public school teachers on an individual or group basis who are not National Board Certified. NBCTs Mentor : Teachers who may or may not be National Board applicants Teachers in low performing schools New teachers to county, school, or grade level

Florida DOE/Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program General Mentoring Guidelines Provides an Annual 10% bonus based on the previous year’s statewide average salary for classroom teachers who: -hold NBPTS certification -are employed by the district school board or a public school in the district -are certified annually by the district to have demonstrated satisfactory teaching performance pursuant to Section , Florida Statutes

SARASOTA National Board Certified Teachers Mentoring Guidelines Mentoring is voluntary This is an additional bonus NBC teachers create their own opportunities for mentoring A minimum of 96 hours of mentoring are required A mentoring activity log is required It is the responsibility of the NBC teacher to keep natural occurring evidence for accountability. SARASOTA National Board Certified Teachers Mentoring Guidelines Mentoring can begin the day you achieve National Board Certification Mentoring clock ends on the last teacher duty day Mentoring clock begins for the next school year on June 1 Mentoring must be directed to Florida public school teachers Mentoring hours may not be received during student contact or teacher planning time

SARASOTA National Board Certified Teachers Mentoring Guidelines Paid holidays do not count until after hours on that day (see school board calendar) Activities performed when on leave of absence do not count for mentoring Mentoring hours may not be used when other compensation is received (including salary credit)

2006 – 2007 BONUS AMOUNTS Based on 10% of previous year’s Statewide teacher’s salary $ 5, (For Achieving) +$ 5, (For Mentoring) ____________________________ $10, each year! *Included in this is money contributed for retirement ($420.62) and the school board’s portion of FICA ($326.67) each time. Your portion of taxes will also be deducted.

Dale Hickman Excellent Teaching Program Verification of Instructional Assignment Salary Bonus November 2006-January 2007 All participants in the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program / National Board of Professional Teaching Standards must establish eligibility based upon guidelines in State Board Rule 6A and have met the following requirements. These requirements must be verified prior to receipt of each bonus: -1.Holds a valid NBPTS certificate or notice of certificate award; -2.Is currently employed full-time as instructional personnel within the meaning of Section (a)-(c), F.S., as reflected by contract, the school district’s personnel salary schedule, or the district’s approved staffing plan; -3.Is currently engaged exclusively in activities that further student instruction; for example, through advising, teaching and mentoring students and offering information resources to students; -4.Teaches students a majority of the time; -5.Has demonstrated satisfactory performance on the most recent, regular annual performance appraisal conducted pursuant to Section , F.S.; -6.Holds a valid Florida educator’s certificate that has never been subject to discipline as a result of a final order of the Education Practices Commission after a formal, informal, or show cause hearing or settlement agreement within the five (5) years immediately prior to the district’s certification pursuant to Section (2)©, Florida Statutes. National Board certified teachers must meet requirements 1 through 6 annually to maintain eligibility for Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program bonuses. The intent of the Dale Hickman Excellent Teaching Program is to keep excellent teachers in the classroom. Teacher’s Statement I am eligible for the incentives and bonuses provided by the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program based upon the above requirements.
