The Local Control and Accountability Plan and Annual Update Effectiveness, Progress and Outcomes 1 Goals for Today Increased understanding of and comfort level with the Annual Update Provide tips and answers to frequently asked questions 2 Annual Update Instructions For each goal in the prior LCAP year, review the progress toward the expected annual outcome(s) based on, at a minimum, the required metrics pursuant to Education Code sections and Annual Update Instructions The review must include an assessment of the effectiveness of the specific actions. Describe any changes to the actions or goals the LEA will take as a result of the review and assessment. In addition, review the applicability of each goal in the LCAP. 5 Annual Update 1

Pause to Review and Reflect Review the chat area Questions and answers There are six guiding questions that local education agencies (LEA) need to consider as they prepare the Annual Update 7 Annual Update-Guiding Questions 8 Question One How have the actions/services addressed the needs of all pupils and did the provisions of those services result in the desired outcomes? 9 Annual Update-Guiding Questions Question Two How have the actions/services addressed the needs of all subgroups of pupils identified pursuant to Education Code section 52052, including, but not limited to, English learners, low-income pupils, and foster youth; and did the provision of those actions/services result in the desired outcomes? 10 Annual Update-Guiding Questions Question Three How have the actions/services addressed the identified needs and goals of specific school sites and were these actions/services effective in achieving the 11 desired outcomes? Annual Update-Guiding Questions Question Four What information (e.g., quantitative and qualitative data/metrics) was examined to 12 review progress towards goals in the annual update? 2

Annual Update-Guiding Questions Question Five a. What progress has been achieved toward the goal and expected measurable outcome(s)? b. How effective were the actions and services in making progress toward the goal? c. What changes to goals, actions, services, and expenditures are being made in the LCAP as a result of the review of progress and assessment of the effectiveness of the actions and services? 13 Annual Update-Guiding Questions Question Six a. What differences are there between budgeted 14 expenditures and estimated actual annual expenditures? b. What were the reasons for any differences? Annual Update Important for business and program staff to work together for Estimated Actual Annual Expenditure column. Pause to Review and Reflect Review the chat area Questions and answers 17 The annual update is completed in conjunction with next year’s LCAP Start gathering data on actions and services that are being provided to share with stakeholders Review data as measured by required and locally determined metrics Dig deep into available metrics e.g. Annual Update-Considerations 18 3

Annual Update-Considerations Make sure that you can provide clear information on: Services and actions that have been provided Services and those that are yet to be provided Estimated Actual Annual Expenditures 19 Availability and Use of Metrics Annual Update Tips Start the Annual Update process now Be ready to communicate What information such as, quantitative and qualitative data/metrics were examined to review progress toward 20 goals in the annual update? What goals, actions/services need to be calibrated? Create opportunities for stakeholders to gain capacity in understanding data/metrics Annual Update Tips Consider using data dashboards Remember to review the LCAP Annual Update Appendices The LCAP will be reviewed during the annual audit.
