What do Democrats believe?

Larger government, helping those who the market system has failed, prochoice, pro-gun control, higher taxes on those who can afford it.

What do Republicans believe?

Lower taxes, smaller government, allow the market place to make jobs for those who need it, prolife, pro 2 nd Amendment

Who approves or ratifies the President’s appointments to the Supreme Court?

The Senate, and only the Senate

What are the requirements to be the President of the US?

35 years old, a natural born citizen, and a resident of the US for the past 14 years

What is the 25 th Amendment?

Provides for transition of power should something happen to the president or VP…the VP can have the President removed from office with a majority of the cabinet’s approval

How does the Electoral College work?

Works well…or not, depending on your viewpoint…each state gets the same # of electors as they have representation in Congress…as the state goes, so does the elector’s votes.

If no candidate for President gets a majority of votes, who gets to decide the election?

The United States House of Representatives, because they’re based on population

What is the State of the Union Address?

Biggest speech of the year for POTUS, it outlines the President’s legislative agenda for the upcoming year!!

What is the cabinet and how many are there?

Well, there’s only one cabinet but there are 15 members, they are the heads of the different branches of the executive branch

Who are the most influential members of the cabinet?

State (foreign affairs), Defense (the Army), Treasury (Economy), and Justice (American judicial system)

What is the line of succession, based on the 25 th Amendment?

Vpotus, Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore (Senate), then the cabinet in order of creation.

What is the role of third party candidates in American elections?

Usually, they end up splitting the vote among a party, or their ideas simply get absorbed by one of the major parties and they go away. Unlikely to ever get elected.
