Hobbies

SLIDE 1 The picture is of a buck in the Rockies that was a bit too friendly. He would sneak up behind you and lick you. You had to keep your gear in the tent so he would not chew on your pack. He also steals food.

The deer would lick you for salt and steal your food.

SLIDE 2 This is a picture taken of a quiet glacial pool high up in the mountains.

SLIDE 3 Slide 3 was taken in Glacier National Park just south of the Canadian border in Montana. The snow and ice were not melted, and blocked the trail. Guys from the Deep South are not really cut out for trekking across snow and ice.

Hiking In Glacier National Park

SLIDE 4 This slide was taken at Glacier National Park at the very top of the Rocky Mountain Continental Divide. There is an abandoned Ranger station at the top. The small animal is a marmot. I have not seen them below altitudes of 7000 feet or so.

Meeting With Marmots

Slide 5 This picture was taken from near a campsite in the Rockies. It was a several mile walk from the trailhead to the campsite. It was a few more miles to get to the vantage point from which the picture was taken.

Sunsets in the Mountains

Slide 6 One of my more time-consuming hobbies is building and restoring antique trucks. The truck shown is a 37 Ford pickup that started life as a ½ ton Ford stakebed pickup. It has an automatic transmission, a Chevrolet engine, no door handles, a/c, and all of the modern conveniences. I drive it regularly and have owned it more than 10 years.

Custom Streetrods

SLIDE 7 ANTIQUE TRUCK RESTORATIONS The picture shown was taken in my shop. The pickup shown is a 37 half-ton Ford pickup that is going back all original. It has taken years to find all of the parts, do the body work, and paint it. It is now being reassembled.

The pickup has mechanical brakes, a 6-V system, crank out windshield, bias ply tires, a roll out windshield, and no power steering or other modern conveniences. It is powered by the original 85hp flathead engine. In the background are spare parts for various projects. All of the grilles fit Ford pickups.

Antique Truck Restorations

SLIDES 8 & 9 These slides show a 35 Ford half-ton pickup that I am currently restoring. This pickup is also going back original, with a 6-V system, mechanical brakes, and the original flathead engine.

I also have a 1939 Ford half-ton panel truck that I am restoring. The panel truck, like the 35 and the 37, is going back original. All of the sheet metal is already painted. I am in the process of painting the body. I will include a picture as soon as I get one taken.
