Simile and Metaphor

What is a Simile and Metaphor? Simile- COMPARES 2 things using LIKE or AS Example: Your smile is like the sun. Metaphor- COMPARES 2 things WITHOUT using like or as Example: You are the apple of my eye.

Simile or Metaphor? She is as sweet as candy. My dad is a bear. Bob runs like a deer. The bar of soap was a slippery eel. His smile is big like the ocean. The willow’s music is like a soprano. It’s raining cats and dogs. She slept like a log. His paintbrush was a magic wand in his hand. He is as thin as a rail.

Similes and Metaphors in Poetry MONDAY

Marshmallow World: It's a marshmallow world in the winter When the snow comes to cover the ground. It's the time for play, it's a whipped cream day I wait for it the whole year 'round. Those are marshmallow clouds being friendly In the arms of the evergreen trees. And the sun is red, like a pumpkin head It's shining so your nose won't freeze. The world is your snowball, see how it grows. That's how it goes whenever it snows. The world is your snowball just for a song Get out and roll it along. It's a yum-yummy world made for sweethearts Take a walk with your favorite girl. It's a sugar date, what if spring is late In winter it's a marshmallow world.

Chocolate Cake, Friends are like chocolate cake, you can never have too many. Chocolate cake is like heaven - always amazing you with each taste or feeling. Chocolate cake is like life with so many different pieces. Chocolate cake is like happiness, you can never get enough of it.

We are the time. We are the famous We are the time. We are the famous metaphor from Heraclotus the Obscure. We are the water, not the hard diamond, the one that is lost, not the one that stands still. We are the river and we are that greek that looks himself into the river. His reflection changes into the waters of the changing mirror, into the crystal that changes like the fire. We are the vain predetermined river, in his travel to his sea. The shadows have surrounded him. Everything said goodbye to us, everything goes away. Memory does not stamp his own coin. However, there is something that stays however, there is something that bemoans.

Write a poem about Christmas. Practice Write a poem about Christmas. It must contain: 2 similes And 2 metaphors

Similes and Metaphors in Songs TUESDAY

Simile and Metaphor You hear similes and metaphors everyday in the music you listen to. Watch this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNFeAgUzpEQ

Sure Thing- Miguel (4) If you be the cash I'll be the rubberband You be the match Imma be your fuse Boom! Painter baby you Could be the muse I'm the reporter baby You could be the news

Glad You Came-The Wanted (7) The sun goes down The stars come out And all that counts Is here and now My universe will never be the same I'm glad you came You cast a spell on me, spell on me You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me

Super Bass- Niki Minaj (9) Boy you got my heartbeat runnin' away Beating like a drum and it's coming your way Can't you hear that boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass Yeah that's that super bass Got that super bass boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, bass Yeah that's that super bass (Boom) [x15] You got that boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, he got that super bass Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, he got that super bass

Better….-New Boyz (10) You’re a dime, so beautiful Top of the line, so unusual Words can’t define, You’re running through my mind all day (day) I’m so happy you’re mine, so beautiful Top of the line, so unusual Now I think it’s time, hey shawty

Replay-Iyaz (11) Shawty's like a melody in my head That I can't keep out Got me singin' like Na na na na everyday It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (2x)

You Lie- The Band Perry You lie like a priceless Persian rug on a rich man's floor Well, You lie like a coon dog basking in the sunshine on my porch Well, You lie like a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store It just comes way too natural to you The way you lie

Cruise – Florida Georgia Line Baby you a song You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise Down a back road blowin’ stop signs through the middle Every little farm town with you

Locked out of Heaven- Bruno Mars 'Cause you make me feel like, I've been locked out of heaven For too long, for too long Yeah, you make me feel like, I've been locked out of heaven For too long, for too long Oh, oh, oh

She’s Like Texas- Josh Abbott Band She’s as free as blue bonnets in the summer. She’s as hot as the Padre Island sun. Most of the time she’s warm and friendly like the hills that surround Austin. She’s as bright as the Dallas sky. She always holds her head up high. She loves the company of her family. She has faith in God’s greater plan. She trusts that I’m a good man. That’s why I’ll always believe that she’s like Texas, and she likes me. Her eyes are green like the trees in Nacogdoches. Her teeth are white as cotton in the fall. And when she laughs you’ll always take notice because her heart’s charm shines right through it all.

Your Turn In your small group BRAINSTORM create a short song that contains a simile and a metaphor. You CAN use beats of songs You CANNOT use lyrics from songs already created *if you finish early, try to think of more!
