BLUETOOTH TRAVEL TIME SYSTEM Purchase of over 160 units Installed on State corridors and City roads Logistic approach on secondary roads Works as a point detection unit tied to paths Over 200 plus miles of road coverage Cost was under $1.1 million with five year support

HOW IT WORKS The devices capture the unique MAC address of the BlueTooth device in the vehicle and the Travel Time is calculated by the Trafficcast Server when a match is seen.

BLUETOOTH TRAVEL TIME SYSTEM Devices from Traffic Cast The Trademarked device name is BlueTOAD. Initial deployment shown is on I-95 and US 1, which parallel each other in this area.

BLUETOOTH TRAVEL TIME SYSTEM The map shown displays travel time for the same section of I-95

BLUETOOTH TRAVEL TIME SYSTEM Scheduled road work on SR-408 WB has the ramp to SR-417 NB closed. Motorists should use the Goldenrod Rd exit as a detour. Map data ©2011 Google - Terms of Use 2 km 1 mi I-95 Northbound ramp to Turnpike / SR-826 WB is closed due to construction. Expect delays in the area. SR-836 EB exit ramp to SR-826 SB will be closed from Friday August 12 at 11pm to Sunday August 14 at 6am due to construction. Motorists should expect delays in the area and seek alternate routes. Scheduled road work on SR-408 WB has the ramp to SR-417 NB closed. Motorists should use the Goldenrod Rd exit as a detour. Bridge Monitoring During Weather Events

Wind Sensors To be placed on 22 bridges Envelope the Northeast Florida region Use of NOAA approval process Use of NOAA GOES (satellites) over Gulf Coordination with Central Office for distribution

Bridge Installations Nassau County (1) ICW (1) Duval County (19) St. Johns River (8) Trout River (2) Roadways (5) Clay County (3) St. Johns River (1) Doctor’s Lake (1) Black Creek (1) St. Johns County (5) ICW (5)

Bridge Monitoring During Weather Events Determining when to close a bridge due to severe weather requires onsite monitoring Today, this bridge monitoring is problematic: Wind-speed data is gathered by law enforcement as severe weather approaches Inefficient use of public safety resources Dangerous for deployed personnel Data-collecting is sometimes inaccurate Dissemination of data is not always timely Bridge Closure During Hurricane Ivan in the Panhandle

Free Satellite Service For Bridge Monitoring On April 29, 2010 FDOT received approval from NOAA to use the DCS satellite system On May 5, 2010 NOAA assigned satellite communications channels to FDOT on the “GOES-12” environmental monitoring satellite August 28, 2005 picture of Hurricane Katrina taken from the GOES-12 satellite

How will it work for FDOT?
