 NJPSA and FEA Retreat  Identified need to have a more focused, robust role for NJPSA Council that allowed for ongoing dialogue on critical and emerging issues  Identified need to open new avenues to maximize NJPSA member involvement in addition to serving on Council and committees  Revised Constitution and Bylaws adopted

 Simplified and streamlined Council structure with goal of promoting diverse membership involvement  Each county now has from 2 to 6 representatives, depending on membership  Currently have approximately 70 Council seats filled  Openings on Council – Lack of county organizations - Gloucester Elem/MS and Secondary, Hudson Principals, Passaic Elem (1) and Passaic Secondary, Union Elementary/M.S.

◦ Provide feedback and guidance in the development of NJPSA positions on education policy; ◦ Identify current and emerging issues in the field that directly impact school leaders; and ◦ Serve as a resource for promoting NJPSA member participation in regional meetings.

 Examples – Common Core, PARCC, identifying issues for meeting with Senate President Sweeney  Feedback is critical in developing NJPSA positions, and advocating for your interests

 Examples – Impact of salary cap on superintendents, the latest on collective bargaining, challenges in implementing HIB law  How can Council members do this? ◦ By sharing information at Council meeting AND throughout the year ◦ By reaching out to NJPSA when you or your colleagues face challenges contact Jennifer Keyes-Maloney at ◦ By promoting attendance at Regional Meetings  NJPSA will proactively reach out to Council members between meetings to seek input on the latest issues from the field

 NJPSA will have 2 meetings in each region of the State in the Spring and Fall of each year  Council members have a key role in encouraging members to attend these meetings  How to Maximize Involvement? ◦ NJPSA has provided lists of members to each county president ◦ County president and Council members working together could personally reach out to members to encourage attendance

Join Us for a Regional Membership Meeting and get a full update from our government relations and legal teams. NJPSA will hold a series of regional membership meetings in six regions throughout the state to provide our members with the opportunity to be more involved with NJPSA and to network with colleagues. Attend to learn about new initiatives being debated in Trenton, and to share your opinions and experiences with us. Issues to be discussed will include the latest on implementing Achieve NJ; PARCC assessments; the latest on tenure, HIB and other case law updates; and how you can get involved in critical legislative issues. We need you to participate so that we can continue to provide you with the services you deserve and count on. These regional meetings will be held on the following dates and all NJPSA members are invited to attend: Each meeting will begin at 4 pm Registration is strongly encouraged…You do not have to register for the meeting closest to your district; you may wish to register for a meeting closer to your home.
