TITLE IX WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR STUDENTS?

WHAT IS TITLE IX …. A Federal Law, enforced by: U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights Washington, D.C

TITLE IX PROTECT STUDENTS…. Title IX protects both male and female students in educational programs and activities from sex discrimination, including sexual harassment, by any school employee, another student, or a non- employee third party.

UM HAS A TITLE IX COORDINATOR… Who oversees policies and procedures that apply to complaints alleging sex discrimination (including sexual harassment, sexual assault and sexual violence).

UM HAS AN ASSISTANT TITLE IX COORDINATOR … Who serves as the primary contact for conducting investigations into sex discrimination/misconduct complaints filed against students.

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IS NOT TOLERATED… The University prohibits sexual misconduct in any form, including sexual assault or sexual abuse, sexual harassment and other forms of nonconsensual sexual conduct.

RECOGNIZING AND ADDRESSING SEXUAL MISCONDUCT… Non-consensual sexual behavior Unwelcome sexual advances Requests for sexual favors Sexual harassment, including sexual assault or acts of sexual violence.

NON-CONSENSUAL SEXUAL BEHAVIOR …. A person incapacitated by alcohol, drugs, sleep or illness, is NOT able to give effective consent.

REPORT SEX DISCRIMINATION/ SEXUAL HARASSMENT TO THE… Title IX Coordinator (Wilma Webber-Colbert ) or Assistant Title IX Coordinator (TBD ) 217 Martindale

INCIDENTS MAY ALSO BE REPORTED TO… University Police Department For emergencies: Dial 911 or from any campus phone 4911 Non emergencies: Faculty members Dean of Students Office

RETALIATION IS NOT TOLERATED … Steps will be taken to protect any individual who makes a report of sexual misconduct or participates in an investigation into sexual misconduct. Such steps may include the issuing of no contact letters, changing of course schedules and/or housing assignments.

CONSEQUENCES FOR SEXUAL MISCONDUCT VIOLATION... Sanctions determined by the Student Judicial Council, per the University's Disciplinary Sanctions policy,may include disciplinary action up to and including suspension or expulsion from the University.
