Abraham the worshipper made Abraham the father

How does Abraham’s Worship Compare with Today’s Definition of Worship?

God’s Test was Abraham’s Worship prove, verify as in Exodus 20.20: And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.” God is testing Abraham to prove what?

The Worshiper is Characterized by: Preparedness Obedience Trust Sacrifice Deep Reverence for God All this, Driven by Faith

The Hebrew word used in 22.5 means to Bow Down. Used 166 times in OT, described as bowing down 114 times. Genesis 24.48: “And I bowed low and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had guided me in the right way to take the daughter of my master’s kinsman for his son.”

The Greek Word adds Emphasis on the “why” 34 of 54 times used, it is described as bowing down. Affirm one as superior Show honor to one deserving To pay deep respect and reverence

The Bible’s meaning of worship is characterized by humility. Simply, humbling one’s self before God. The tone of worship is peaceful, reverent. Worship is an attitude of the heart, not an event.

How Do We, the Church, define Worship? Rapidly growing in popularity: Experience man-centered characterized by high energy, exciting the senses

How Do We, the Church, define Worship? Traditional definition: “Praise and worship” As though worship only accompanies praise(i.e. music), and together they identify part of the corporate gathering distinct from the preaching.

Only three verses use praise and worship together 2 Chronicles 7.3: And all the sons of Israel, seeing the fire come down and the glory of the LORD upon the house, bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave praise to the LORD, saying, “Truly He is good, truly His lovingkindness is everlasting.” 2 Chronicles 29.30: Moreover, King Hezekiah and the officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the LORD with the words of David and Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with joy, and bowed down and worshiped. Nehemiah 8.6: Then Ezra blessed the LORD the great God. And all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

The Hebrew for “Praise” means: Throw, shoot, cast As in verbalized thanksgiving Psalm 100.4: Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. give thanks to Him; bless His name. Psalm : With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the LORD; and in the midst of many I will praise Him.

Praise is often done with music King David made instruments and assigned Levites to praise God with music.

What about King David dancing before the LORD with all his might? The first and only time “worship” is described as frenetic behavior is when the Israelites were worshipping the golden calf

Paul wrote: 1 Corinthians 14.33: …for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. Verse 40: But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner.

Whether physical bowing is done, biblically- defined worship is a bowing down of the heart; humble, peaceful, reverence toward God.
