The Respiratory System Means… The Respiratory System takes in oxygen and eliminates carbon dioxide. The Respiratory System includes the : Trachea, Lungs, Diaphragm, Epiglottis, Larynx, and the Vocal Cords. These parts of The Respiratory System make up the upper part of your body.

Diagram Of The Respiratory System

The Major Parts Of The Respiratory System The Trachea is a windpipe. It begins under the Larynx. It divides into two smaller tubes. The Lungs help you breathe in oxygen. In the blood streams, oxygen cells are carried through the body. It is exchanged for carbon dioxide. The Diaphragm is the bottom part of the lungs when you breathe. It contracts when you breathe and expands out, reducing the amount of space for the Lungs. The Epiglottis is the flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue. The Larynx is the voice box. It holds the vocal cords in place and is responsible for holding the voice. The Vocal Cords are the vocal reeds. They are composed of twin in folding of the mucous membrane.

The Breathing Process Organs or cells that moves air in and out of the lungs or oxygen through other breathing organs such as gills. The lungs carry the oxygen through the blood stream and carries the oxygen through the body. In each cell, oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide.

How It Works With Other Systems The Respiratory System and The Circulatory System works together by transporting food nutrients and oxygen to the body cells. It also delivers carbon dioxide and waste products. 3 examples are : Provides oxygen so the Digestive System can digest food. A second example is : Removes carbon dioxide and water through cells produce as a waste product. A third example is : Providing the oxygen that is carried by red blood cells to all parts, removing carbon dioxide and water that heart cells produce as a waste product.

4 Facts About The Respiratory System A fun fact about the Respiratory System is that the goal for the Respiratory System is to delivers oxygen to the body and to take away carbon dioxide. Another fun fact about this system is yawning is apart of the Respiratory System. It means your lungs are not getting enough oxygen. The third fun fact is hiccuping is also apart of the Respiratory System. The Diaphragm has a twitch. The last fun fact is The Respiratory System is a major part of your body functions because you would have no oxygen to your body. Without oxygen, there is no possible way you can live.
