Introduction to Sociology The Study of Human Relationships Mrs. Burgess

Quick Write – 3 minutes each Answer the following questions on one side of your index card  What do you already know about this class?  What do you hope to learn/do in this class?  What is your biggest fear/concern about this class?

What is Sociology?  Intro documentary   

Sociological Perspective  Looking at life in a scientific systematic way, rather than depending on common-sense explanations.  See life through the eyes of others so that you can look beyond commonly held beliefs to the hidden meanings behind human behavior.

What is Society?  A group of mutually interdependent people who have organized in such a way as to share a common culture and have a feeling of unity.  Huh?

Sociological Imagination  The ability to see the connections between the larger world and your personal life 
