German Association of Music Schools Quality systems of German Public Music Schools

Every music school has to prove its quality Structural plan for music schools (quality of concept) Curricula for member schools (pedagogical quality) Good running institution and service, affordable fees (quality of instituion) Public presence, cooperation, people-oriented, public relations (political quality)

Guidelines for member schools Define the conditions and quality demands music schools have to fulfil in order to be admitted as members (school’s structure and teaching programme, teacher and management qualifications) Curricula for member schools for early music education and basic music education, instrumental and vocal subjects, ensemble and complementary subjects

Structural Plan for Music Schools

Annual reports to member association (VdM) Data concerning trusteeship, direction and management, teachers, subjects, pupils, teaching handicapped pupils, concerts, international meetings, advanced education for teachers, association of parents and patrons, cooperations, quality management, financing, fees Enables to envince music school developments Analysis and publication as annual abstract of statistics

Quality system for music schools – QsM QsM is an adapted version of the EFQM Excellence Model (European Foundation of Quality Management) QsM is a management tool and guide for continuous and systematic improvement of all school activities QsM offers specific applicability for learning to recognize own practices QsM is a self-assessment that includes concrete evidence and documentation -> leads to a new form of awareness QsM applies a weighted credit system, enabling meaningful comparison of quality with other music schools
