Vinyasa Yoga By Suhyun Yun, Kaitlin Ma, Selina Tsoy, and Christina D’Arpa

What is Vinyasa? Vinyasa is a fast- paced yoga that is great to do when you want to burn some calories and lose weight. It is also a type of power yoga and flowing yoga. While doing Vinyasa yoga, each pose transitions to the next pose linking with the breath. Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”, so Vinyasa yoga is when you move from one pose to another, while inhaling or exhaling of your breath. It is a mellow experience.

Who created Vinyasa Yoga? Vinyasa yoga was believed to be created by Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Other people say that it is most commonly known to have been started by a sacred Yogi named Sri Ramamohan Brahmachari. Pattabhi Jois refined the techniques to use more movement with breath and he developed Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. No one can go all the way back to find out who really created Vinyasa yoga.

Where was Vinyasa Yoga created? Some say that Vinyasa yoga originated from an ancient text called the “Yoga Korunta” which was written around Some also say Sri Ramamohan Brahmachari created it in a cave of Mount Kailas in the Himalayas, which is the highest mountain range, located in Asia.

When was Vinyasa Yoga created? The origins of Vinyasa yoga can be traced back to 200 B.C. It was created around the nineteenth century. Although, many other people believe it was during twentieth century. No one can go all the way back to find the exact date when Vinyasa yoga was created because Vinyasa has been taught for a while by so many different people.

Why do people do Vinyasa Yoga? People do Vinyasa Yoga to help them relax and calm down, as well as letting them exercise. It creates a slow flowing action, helping the person take a breath through each posture. It lets the blood flow gently around the body and his or her heart beat slow down. Also, Vinyasa yoga helps them breathe better to comfort the mind.

How does Vinyasa Yoga help the Body? Vinyasa yoga helps the breathing, movement, heart rate, and blood flow of the body. It helps the body release stress and calm down. It clears the mind of any stressing thoughts and any anger. Vinyasa yoga creates happiness and it helps people loosen up. Many people do this type of yoga, mostly because it is a power yoga and a flowing yoga, which helps them mix power and flowing postures or movements.

Breathing Breathing is a big part of yoga because it links with the postures and it helps with relaxation. It also helps you focus on things that are stressing or things that make you nervous. It helps the heart rate and the pulse slow down while doing yoga. Breathing helps you think better and easier in a peaceful way. Inhaling and exhaling rests the mind and it lets air course through the lungs.

Meditation Meditation helps people think properly and helps them think of ideas they’re looking for. While meditating, everything in the person’s mind organizes and they don’t stress as much. There are many different forms of meditation and it depends on what type the person wants to do. Sometimes people spend a long period of time meditating to figure out what they are looking for or what the point of life is.
