Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Indoor light I ndoor lighting: Issues Indoor light can be a ‘hair puller’ to work with. There is usually a warm color shift when using incandescent light with the WB set to Auto. Working with fluorescent light can result in ghostly or jaundiced yellowish green look that’s hard to color correct for good skin color. Indoor light can also be harsh, poor direction, and more than one source.

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Overview A voiding It for Now: This warning is for Art 114 students only. Once your beyond this class, I expect you to push your skill level and to experiment. And that means to take on lighting challenges. Art 114 is about building confidence and a solid skill base. What’s on the avoid list now goes on the try-it list in Art 115.

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: In use REI: Found lighting This natural material beau relief sculpture caught my eye. The harsh spot light made it particularly 3-d. In order to have a chance of digitally capturing it, I had to adjust the camera settings: 1.Changed the camera contrast setting to Low. 2.Made sure that the camera was set to shoot in both the RAW/jpeg image file formats.

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Photoshop lab work Custom Process: The RAW image was processed in Silkypix ‘Developer’ program to minimize highlight detail loss. The RAW processed image was then saved as a jpeg to my ‘work’ folder. I opened the jpeg file in Photoshop and processed it to put my ‘low-key’ take on the shot. Starting PointLow-key Take

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Photoshop lab work Take Ownership: Make it yours I zeroed in on the webbed hand as my focal point. But I backup up to include more of the sculpture to establish the handmade quality and native design. I decided to dark stain the bottom section. Starting PointLow-key Take

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Comparison Beyond the ID Shot: Camera OriginalProcessedPersonalized Camera OriginalProcessedPersonalized I’m not trying to show you the artwork. I used it as a starting point to capture what I wanted to say with the camera original. I processed to make it photo-realistic. I personalized it using various selection, masking, and colorizing techniques. It’s okay not to like what I did but to understand the process of change, visualization, and active transformation.

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Closer Look: Closer look

Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I High Dynamic Range: Conclusion Spirit of Play: It’s primary and vital to an image maker. Play with ideas, materials, technique, lighting, props, pose, and locations. And, for an image maker, that means shoot, shoot, and make more images…
