Dis-empowerment When you give away your power to someone else. Bad Vibes – it just doesn’t feel right! It makes you feel bad and resentful You point the blame finger
Dis-empowerment When you allow someone to over step your boundaries When you do not speak up and you swallow your feelings When you say Yes ( when you really mean no) When you do or say something that is not really true to how you feel inside When you allow others to tell you how you should feel or how you should behave When you allow people to walk all over you and bully / shout at you.
Dis-empowerment When you allow other peoples criticism to put you in a bad mood When you blame other people for your situation When you feel you don’t have a choice When you gossip about others When you let other people drive your bus When you are a people pleaser
Dis-empowerment Disempowerment comes from inside you. You can only be a doormat if you allow other people to walk all over you.
Empowerment Personal empowerment comes within yourself. It results in self-reliance, self responsibility and self respect. It takes practise and can be a very personal thing Depending on how we feel inside.
Empowerment Standing up for yourself – assertiveness Having Good Boundaries in Place Learning to say No Valuing yourself (and other people) Respecting yourself (and other people) Asking for help
Empowerment Firm but Kind Calm and Clear Not allowing other peoples negativity to get your down Not taking on ‘ other peoples’ stuff Taking Criticisms lightly
Empowered EA’s Know your value. Don’t underestimate yourself and be your own advocate. Believe in yourself and your potential. Get out of denial when things aren’t working Be authentic to yourself. Take positive action and use your voice in empowered ways Don’t be afraid to put yourself forward. Don’t be afraid to say NO Look for a win-win situation
Empowered EA’s Be proactive Take a risk Take back your power Take responsibility for your role and your happiness Be assertive Don’t be afraid to ask for help Speak up if things are not working Respectful of self and others ( watch your energy)

What Stops us Being Empowered EA’s? FEAR, FEAR, FEAR! Fear of Confrontation and conflict Lack of Boundaries FEAR we will hurt someone’s feelings FEAR of what ‘ May Happen’ FEAR of ‘ Not looking Good or that people won’t like us’

Dealing with Criticism Don’t take it too personally Look at what you can take away from the criticism and what you choose not to take away If you find yourself over-reacting – ask yourself what is going on inside of you? Ask for further clarification or examples if required Get honest with yourself –Did I do the best that I could given the current situation and resources?’
Dealing with the Workplace Bully They may never change You can change the way you react Be empowered and brave! They are often cowards and have been getting away with for too long Use statements like ‘ I am sorry, this doesn’t work for me right now’ or ‘ I would love to help however, I have other priorities right now’
Dealing with the Workplace Bully ‘I feel’ statements are great Repeat your message Turn your body away from them
