Euthanasia in the 21 st century CD

Background eeuthanasia: the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die tthe law and medical profession distinguish between euthanasia, suicide and cessation of treatment eeuthanasia (passive OR active) is culpable homicide  10 yrs. in prison qquality of life vs. longevity? ppersonal rights, human compassion, morals, medical and legal demands

The Ethical Debate  focus on quality of life  murder vs. personal right to decide  key questions:  should the patient be allowed to choose when to die?  what parts should the courts play?  does society have a moral obligation to act kindly to those in distress?

Because We Can?  are we only keeping people alive because we have the ability to do so?  keeping people alive….population crisis  treatments available….money loss, no cures  in 2001 Canada’s health care expenditure topped $100 billion  individually Canadians spend approx. $3300 per capita on health care

Future Outlook kkilling vs. letting die ppassive vs. active euthanasia mmedical science is advancing at such a rate that making life and death decisions is difficult sstrong arguments and supporters for both sides of debate
